The commitment of keeping this site live dynamic and up
to date is part of what motivates me as an artist.
Unlike having a 'normal' job, from the moment I awake
until I go to sleep, how I engage with the world is up
to me.
To live my day as an artist is somehow to
leave tracks, marks or signs of the day in this
relentless march of time. To see these signs in the
form of drawings, paintings, prints or sculptures
somehow helps me to make sense of it all.
A few years ago I would have thought this statement
would have smacked of pretentiousness, but as I
head towards the 60 years old mark to me this nails
it.
Writing and putting up images on this site is very
much part of this process. I hope my writing is
useful, thought provoking or entertaining for you,
but primarily I write and post here on my blog
because I feel compelled to do so, and that's
reason enough in itself.
(Seconds later, after my friend took this
picture on the left, of me on the Yanu Yacu river
in the Amazon region of Peru, the small wooden raft
I was standing on split in two and dumped me in the
river. Pity I don't have a shot of that, it would
have been much more fun!).
My intention is to make this site as honest and
transparent as possible. The days of someone with a
calling to live as an artist. Like an explorer I want
to get below the layers, the stories of who I think I
am. With great curiosity I'm interested to see what
happens next.
